Airbus decided to end the E-Fan X project to develop a more focused roadmap to progress on their ambitious decarbonisation commitments.

Grazia Vittadini, Airbus Chief Technology Officer, said that as we start to navigate the realities of a post-COVID-19 world, she's more certain than ever that they need to continue full-speed ahead with their sustainability ambitions. In fact, given the unprecedented challenge of climate change, at Airbus have been asking themselves if they could take an even bolder approach to reduce CO2 emissions. Today, their answer is a resounding yes!

But decarbonising the aviation industry is no small feat. To achieve this, they need to re-focus all efforts on technology bricks that will take them there. It’s for this reason that Airbus and Rolls Royce have jointly decided to bring the E-Fan X demonstrator to an end. As with all ground-breaking R&T projects, it’s their duty to constantly evaluate and reprioritise them to ensure alignment with their ambitions. These decisions are not always easy. But they’re undoubtedly necessary to stay the course.
